Biologists say we’ve lost about half of the number of songbirds we had just 50 years ago.
Part of the reason is the loss of habitat. Many birds need wetlands.
This is the story of one man’s love of those birds and his work to save their home.

Sun Rising Over the Beautiful Great Lakes
This past weekend the MNA Staff and Board of Trustees took a weekend trip to the Upper Peninsula to visit a potential new sanctuary in Mackinac County. Trustee David Sharpe took this photo of the sunrise over Lake Huron…just another example of Michigan’s stunning natural features, and the reason we work to protect them.
It’s now easier than ever to find out when and where you can help by visiting our new volunteer and field trip events calendar on our website. You can see the entire month’s opportunities on one page for easy viewing, and if you like to plan ahead you can see the next two months as well!
